Glutenvrije markt! / Gluten-free Market!
As a first timer at the gluten-free market, I was amazed by the amount of products – from various countries – they sell! Besides that, I was surprised by the fact that some products are discounted that have been long past their due date! I mean for a long time! Almost everyone that enters the gluten-free market has digestive issues and to me it feels counterintuitive to buy a product where the label indicates to throw it away. I did buy gluten-free King Soba noodles - Brown Rice - Wakame Noodles, though (two years past their due date)! I prepared them the next day with Kimchi and Bibim sauce. The noodles tasted fine in combination with the Kimchi!
Furthermore, I talked to a couple that own a shop and sell gluten-free homemade items. I think I forgot to ask her name but she is Italian. They have a lab at their home and she creates all the food from scratch. Together with her husband they grow the vegetables in their own vegetables/herbs garden, they carefully select the other items they use and only use the finest biological ingredients. All their food is gluten and lactose-free created with the best organic ingredients and limited amounts of sugar. She recommended the Rosa Canina e Cannella and told us, if I remember correctly it was the Albicocca, that she used grapes instead of sugar. The mini-suppli that were on display looked and sounded delicious despite that they did contain allium. However, I would love to try another bite but it’s probably better if I don’t with my dietary requirements! They are very passionate about their food, I recommend to try Verlessio! They have an online shop but are located in Oegstgeest and if you pick up your order, have a chat with the lovely owners as well!
After, I scored some new GF (gluten-free) food items, I also handed out some bags from The Celiac Cause that support the cause to raise awareness for celiac disease! In what better place you can start to connect with members of the GF community than at the gluten-free market! When I met new GFFs &GFs – gluten-free friends & gluten-friends – I told them about my cause and they happily joined it! To see whom I’ve met and how they feel about to need to eat gluten-free, check the photos below!
Meet the two lovely twin girls Nina (left) and Suvi (right). In the middle you see their warm mother Liselotte!
Nina:
I forgot to ask their names but both these beautiful ladies are gluten-intolerant, not celiacs. Happy to have met them!
Meet the joyous Linda (left) and Merel (right)! Twins, celiacs and diagnosed since age eleven. They are enjoying an ice-cream from L’acrobaleno: “ the one and only - 100% gluten-free ice-cream shop in the Netherlands.”
