Ijs&zo – Wassenaar
To take advice from prof. D. Keltner and prof. E. Simon-Thomas, the ones that taught me about human happiness, and put it into practice I took myself out for a little treat on an awe-inspiring walk to the center of Wassenaar. The weather was a bit too chilly but the sun was shining nicely on my face and the wind pushed me forward to Wassenaar. I ended up straight into the ice-cream salon of two lovely women who went above and beyond to make sure I could safely eat my ice-cream. I was lucky that they had my favorite flavors hazelnut and lemon! They were so yummy! I wasn’t aware this ice-cream shop offered gluten-free ice-cream and they even had separately packed gluten-free plus vegan cones! They double checked if my condition was medical or not, when I told them it was, they filled their kettle, boiled it to clean the spoon with boiling hot water. Thereafter, they generously scooped the lemon and hazelnut flavor and this time I took a cup instead of a cone. When I was about to take my first bite, I quickly searched my bag for my lactase pills but I forgot to take them with me. So, you suffer the consequences. Namely, next to hazelnut, lemon is normally the only sorbet flavor that often contains milk. I believe that at Ijs&zo their lemon is gluten and lactose-free, since the sign indicating the allergens stated it was 100 percent lemon! Thank you to the lovely ladies for cheering me up today when I was feeling a little mellow.
