Getty Center – Los Angeles
When I want to work and soak up some beautiful views from the city I go to work at the Getty Center. I am a stack reader which comes with the benefit on being able to work there on a Monday (while the Center is closed to the public) and to validate my parking! Which is a big perk when you visit often. However, I usually travel by bus. Very conveniently there is a bus stop right before the Center. You cross the street and walk your way up to the trams or if you are up for it to quote my mother or her side of the family: ‘neem je de benenwagen’, which literally translates you take the legs-wagon, and walk your way up to the top! I have not done that yet, since I usually carry two bags with books, my laptop, chargers, universal travel adapter, water bottle, and most importantly my lunch plus snacks for the day! Though, I did ask one of the staff members if she would recommend walking instead of taking the tram and she recommended to first take the trip downhill which will take you approximately 15 minutes. Uphill will take you 20 to 25 min. If am correct, you can grab an umbrella before you start to walk towards the center to prevent your hair from getting sun burned. But, I think I will walk my way up to the center soon because I recently find out about a variety of gluten and allium-free foods that they offer! My favourite gluten-free muffin across whole LA is waiting there for you to give it a try! It is a banana muffin, it is gluten-free but does contain milk. Last week, I shared it with another gem, the very hardworking and always helpful, Daniela, because I needed to pick up a parcel from her office at UCLA. I will ask her next week if she likes the muffin as much as I do!
Next we need to talk about their salads because they have not one but two options and even the sauces do not contain any allium! I was so surprised and very joyful that I tried the winter salad. Even though I recently ate a bigger meal and the salad does come with a steep price of 24 dollars, while it mostly contains different kinds of lettuce. All that couldn’t effect my joy about founding this salad gem. By exception, I wasn’t alone at the Getty, Arnoud joined me that afternoon. I shared the salad with him and made sure to first eat all the pomelo, because he can’t eat all the citrus fruits. To see the other salad that I had, watch the photo’s displayed on my, the gluten-free crumble or the celiac cause Instagram page!
To conclude, I met with the chef of the restaurant Steven who is an expert when it comes to celiac disease. He recommended me to opt for the Pho. Which Steven makes from scratch and every precaution in the kitchen is taken to make sure there is no cross contamination. Steven is very kind and likes to help you out! Will be back soon for another bowl of gluten-free tofu pho and for me without scallions!
