Los Angeles — Simpang Asia

Considered to be one of the best Indonesian restaurants in Los Angeles, Simpang Asia is located in cute Palms as well as in hip and happening Venice. You can imagine how excited I was to read that they offer many gluten free options on their menu and, upon request, are able to accustom a lot of dishes that are not. I decided to try the Lemper as a starter. Lemper is described on the website as a “sweet rice roll with shredded coconut chicken” and is one of the standard gluten free starters. For $7.95, you get two large rice rolls.

As main course I opted for the Mantep Padang ($19.95), a “Simpang fave dish, bold & deliciously spicy w/ Chicken curry, sambal beef steak, egg curry, water spinach, green sambal & rice”. In addition, I ordered The #8 Nasi Bungkus ($18.95), a classic in Indonesia. Both dishes are part of their “tradition” offerings and standard gluten free!

Note that not all dishes are available in their Venice location as some are only available in their West LA location.
