McDonald’s — A44

In the morning, I went for a coffee at McDonald’s on the A44 to work and to read the newspaper. Once arrived, you are able to choose from various new outlets to suit your needs. Early in the morning, it’s nice and calm at the Mc. I ordered at a self-service kiosk. I scrolled through the menu and chose a cappuccino or was it a black coffee? I can’t quite remember, but I am guessing it was a cappuccino. Luckily, for people with a lactose intolerance, you are able to select soy milk too. You click on personalise and select the soy option. I used their table service, sat down and started to read the newspaper in front of me. Via my posts, a treasure found my exact location and joined me that morning on this ritual. I talked with a few elderly people that were also enjoying a cup of coffee while reading the newspaper, since you get a discount in the morning when you’ve leveled up to 65 or higher. Next time, I will ask them to buy me a cup of coffee! We talked a bit about the highlights in everyone's newspaper (we all had different ones), to save time without needing to read them all whilst each one sat at their own table. As an aside, the barista at the Mc also sang beautifully while she prepared the coffee!

Later, I returned to the self-service kiosk and placed the newspaper again at its origin. I didn’t have had breakfast yet. I actually, had sworn off McDonald's since the food always makes me feel sick, but for the blog I chose to give it a try and also because I am doing a lot better with digesting food. The hamburger, cheeseburger or Big Mac are available to select from a gluten-free bun and are accredited with a celiac logo. This means someone from the management staff, trained to handle a gluten-free order with proper care, will prepare your hamburger. They will change their gloves or wash their hands and the bun is heated in the microwave within its plastic shell. The fries are gluten-free since nothing else is fried in the fryer and I usually select the option without salt! The wait will be a little longer, but then you do get hot, newly fried fries! I selected a happy meal with fries, a regular hamburger, apple slices and, as a toy, a book, but luckily they were sold out! By surprise, the toy included with the happy meal was Pokémon Cards! I switched places, and joined a group of other elderly people who were having a cup of coffee. All the elder ones know each other from this place! It’s a nice way to socialise in the morning and meet new people.  Unfortunately, this particular place doesn’t have Wi-Fi. There are a few younger people like me who do work there, but you have to create a hotspot on your mobile phone to be able to work at this Mc. Thank you to all the lovely people I met and especially to the caretaker of Jantje!
