Orange Butter Bakery - Los Angeles

Orange Butter Bakery at Mar Vista Farmers’ Market

On a sunlit Sunday I decided to bike to the Mar Vista Farmers’ Market. My goal was to find out if they had any gluten free stands. I had seen online that there was a gluten free bread stand at another farmer’s market, so I figured perhaps here as well.

The farmers’ market was pretty packed and lively and after an exploratory stroll my eye was caught by an orange sign that stated gluten-free and dairy-free. It was the sign of a small-batch bakery stand called Orange Butter Bakery.

I asked the lady working there if their assortment is safe for celiacs and she told me it is! They had already run out of things, but I still spotted clementine cake, chocolate chip brownies, peach muffins, interesting sounding blueberry oat potato muffins, gluten free bread, and even more.

I was told that everything they offer is safe for celiacs as the owner’s son has celiac disease. The kind lady explained that their Banana Chocolate Chip Bread ($15,00) was the product that started it all. After I tried a sampler I had decided. This was exactly what I wanted to buy.

The banana bread was fresh and soft. As the name suggested it tasted like chocolate and banana bread with the flavor somewhat heavier on the chocolate side. It was delicious. One of the listed ingredients is California Sunshine and I think that might be the secret! I resisted the urge to eat the whole bread in one go and was happy to discover that it was just as gooey the day after I bought it.
